11:00 AM-4:00 PM CWAM, The Ocean After Nature - Ebert Art Center - College of Wooster Art Museum

The exhibition The Ocean After Nature considers the ocean as a site reflecting the ecological, cultural, political, and economic realities of a globalized world through the work of twenty artists and collectives. Using a wide variety of media, this international group of artists explore new ways of representing the seascape and critiquing the vulnerabilities of our ecosystems.

The Ocean After Nature is an exhibition curated by Alaina Claire Feldman and organized by Independent Curators International (ICI), New York. The exhibition is made possible with the generous support from ICI's International Forum and Board of Trustees.

CWAM FILM SERIES
The Ocean After Nature

RENÉE GREEN

Endless Dreams and Water Between, 2009

70 min.

Endless Dreams and Water Between
captures a journey across dispersed sites: California, Manhattan and Majorica, held together by epistolary and oceanic exchanges among four fictional female characters who dream aloud about one day gathering in an imaginary place together. The film explores how islands shape our understanding of place in the world through conceptual, spacial, and historical positioning.

THE OTOLITH GROUP

Hydra Decapita, 2010

31:41 min.

Hydra Decapita is a meta-documentary of an imaginary world based on the concept albums of Detroit based techno duo Drexciya. The myth of Drexciya is based on an underwater country populated by the evolved species of unborn children of pregnant women thrown overboard during the middle-passage of slave ships across the Atlantic. Amidst commenting on globalization, slavery, capitalism and climate change, the film is interrupted by high-contrast tight shots of flickering water, an intentionally abstract depiction of the perspective of the sea looking back at us.

The Ocean After Nature is an exhibition curated by Alaina Claire Feldman and organized by Independent Curators International (ICI), New York. The exhibition is made possible with the generous support from ICI's International Forum and Board of Trustees.
